EMDR Individual Therapy Sessions

What Each Session May Include

EMDR individual therapy sessions are structured, clinically guided, and tailored to the client’s phase of treatment, readiness, and goals. While each session is unique, sessions generally follow the EMDR framework and evolve as treatment progresses.

Session length (60 or 90 minutes) and pacing are determined collaboratively and may change over time.

What Is Included in Every EMDR Individual Session

Regardless of phase, EMDR sessions include:

  • Clinical assessment of readiness and safety
  • Informed consent and collaborative pacing
  • Regulation and grounding at session close
  • Documentation and treatment planning
  • Ongoing evaluation of whether EMDR should continue, pause, or shift

EMDR may be paused, slowed, or modified at any point based on clinical need.

Important Notes

  • EMDR therapy does not guarantee outcomes or symptom resolution
  • The number of sessions required varies by individual
  • EMDR is always guided by safety and clinical judgment
  • Clients may choose individual sessions or structured 90-day phases
  • Crisis and emergency services are not included
